Following the conclusion of the Foreign Affairs Council (Trade) of the European Union, held in Brussels on 14 July 2025, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Harry Theoharis, made the following statement:
\n\u201cIn a shifting geostrategic environment, trade is not merely an economic instrument, but a fundamental source of power for the European Union. It strengthens our global position and contributes significantly to enhancing the competitiveness of the European economy.
\nToday, we had the opportunity to discuss the challenges in the EU\u2013US transatlantic partnership, the evolving dynamics of the EU\u2019s relationship with China, as well as the numerous trade agreements the Union has been actively pursuing in recent months.\u201d
\nRegarding EU\u2013US relations, Mr. Theoharis noted:
\n\u201cOur transatlantic alliance remains of fundamental importance. Europe consistently prioritizes cooperation over confrontation. Nevertheless, with unity and determination, we are ready to defend European interests should the need arise.\u201d
\nReferring to EU\u2013China relations, the Deputy Minister stated:
\n\u201cThe EU\u2019s priorities regarding China were thoroughly discussed, and we are looking ahead to a Summit in the coming weeks, which we hope will go beyond symbolism and deliver concrete and meaningful results.\u201d
\nFinally, on the EU\u2019s trade agreements with third countries, Mr. Theoharis stated:
\n\u201cThe EU\u2019s trade agreements\u2014most recently the political agreement reached yesterday with Indonesia\u2014are of strategic significance. They offer alternative routes for the supply of the European economy and enhance our export capabilities. We believe that the strength of the European Union will be further reinforced through the successful conclusion and implementation of these agreements, within today\u2019s complex and multilayered geopolitical landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n
