Harry Theoharis had the pleasure of engaging in insightful and productive discussions with both the Japan Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The conversations covered Japan’s strategic priorities, not only in the context of its own tourism development but also in relation to its cooperation with UN Tourism and the broader international community.
A shared understanding emerged on the vital role that unity plays as a catalyst for sustainable growth, and both sides explored concrete ways to foster and reinforce this sense of shared purpose. Mr. Theoharis left Japan feeling deeply encouraged and sincerely grateful for the country’s continued support and meaningful engagement with the Organization.
Equally fruitful was his meeting with the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The discussions focused on the future of the Organization, reaffirming the shared view that reform is necessary—carried out thoughtfully and responsibly, without undermining the successful programmes currently in place.
The large and well-prepared Indonesian delegation expressed strong interest in Mr. Theoharis’s candidacy, asking a number of detailed questions about his proposed programme of action and reform agenda. He was pleased to provide comprehensive responses and was encouraged by the delegation’s positive reactions and the clear alignment between his vision and Indonesia’s strategic priorities.
One message emerged clearly from the discussions: reform is no longer optional—it is a clear and pressing necessity.
