Announcements, Candidate for UN Tourism

Visit of UN Tourism Secretary-General Candidate Mr. Harry Theoharis to France

My recent meeting with the French Minister of Tourism, Mme Nathalie Delattre, was, as always, enlightening, constructive, and conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cordiality. It was a true pleasure to reconnect with Mme Delattre and to exchange views on the current dynamics of the European and global tourism markets.

Our discussion centred on identifying practical and forward-looking avenues of cooperation between France, a country with one of the world’s most prominent tourism sectors, and the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism). I was particularly encouraged by Mme Delattre’s observation that the comprehensive programme of institutional reforms I am proposing as part of my candidacy for the position of Secretary-General aligns closely with France’s priorities in the field of tourism governance.

On the basis of this shared understanding, Mme Delattre expressed her intention to contribute meaningfully to further deepening the already strong cooperation between France and UN Tourism.

Receiving the support of a nation as influential and experienced in tourism as France is both an honour and a responsibility — one that reinforces my determination to meet the high expectations of our member states.

Mme Delattre and I concluded our meeting with a joint commitment to remain in close contact and to coordinate our next steps in the very near future.
